Model Railroad City

I like how you have circled the locomotive circuit up over the mountain range and even put in some nice topographical detail. The little mining camp over there was a really good choice. It feels like you could still add something though? Right here in this huge area that is a tiny bit bland, you could put a toy railroad town. Here are some reasons why it would really improve your track layout:
A toy railroad metropolis is interesting in itself:
First of all, a little model railroad town is just great to have for its own merits. When you look at a locomotive circuit set up and you see a little metropolis in it, your gaze is naturally directed to look up and down its streets. Just gazing at the little figures frozen in time is really intriguing. For some young viewers the toy railroad town will command as much attention as the trains themselves.

Another wonderful thing about having houses and other objects a viewer is used to seeing in the real world is that it gives you a sense of depth in relation to your trains. It’s also impressive to have the locomotive disappear between buildings and stop at a fully developed train station. The made up world of the model train just seems that much more full and rich.
A model railroad town is a good way of adding historical detail to your model locomotive design:
Another impressive thing about a model railroad city is that it really let’s you develop the period specific detail for your model locomotive. You might even be able to get your little ones to do a little reading to help come up with the of historical details that really bring a design together. You should think of yourself as a story teller when you’re making your locomotive’s world. But this can also be a form of stealth learning for your young ones. This is yet another impressive way of developing the realism of your model train world.

If you have a tiny artist laying around the house this may be the time to recruit her to the hobby. They will love adding all the miniature realistic details of dress color and weathering that go into the whole process of designing a realistic toy train world. Every street car can be a project onto itself and when you have someone with an artistic eye they can really help bring out the sort of detail that will make your model railroad city stand out. It will be sure to add yet another compelling aspect to your toy train empire!
